Microsoft AI previews MAI Image 2.7

On 27 October 2026 Microsoft AI announced MAI Image 2.7, its latest image-editing model, in preview: it can restyle or relight a whole scene, change text and symbols inside an image, and restore or enhance existing pictures. It can be tried on Arena, Artificial Analysis and Microsoft's MAI Playground; text-to-image generation is described as coming soon.

Why it matters

Microsoft's own image line, which the atlas holds from the April 2026 record of MAI-Image-2, now has an editing model that the public can try on third-party comparison sites as well as on Microsoft's playground. The post's headline is about rankings, which are Microsoft's reading of two moving leaderboards.

What the post says. "MAI Image 2.7, our latest image editing model, launches with even stronger control for edits that are hardest to get right." It "improves on 2.6 across all 10 use cases and all 7 editing actions evaluated by Artificial Analysis" and "reaches the category frontier" in four named categories: enhancement and restoration, reasoning-based edits, scene and style, and text or symbol editing. It is in preview, and the post says "We're starting with editing, with text-to-image generation coming soon." What the record does not claim. The post's title and first paragraph give positions on Arena Edit and on the Artificial Analysis image-editing leaderboard (third and second); those boards change and the positions are Microsoft's statement, so they are not repeated as findings. No weights, price, API or technical report are mentioned. The text of the page gives no date for the evaluations.
