Anthropic pledges $150 million to the Genesis Mission

On 8 October 2026 Anthropic announced a commitment of $150 million over three years to the Genesis Mission, a federal initiative to accelerate scientific discovery with AI. The money makes Claude available to more than 15 agencies in the mission, including NASA, the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation: Claude, Claude Code and API credits for several hundred projects, joint work on fusion energy and quantum computing, and training and support for scientists. It was announced at a White House science summit.

Why it matters

The pledge is made in model access and support rather than in grants, and it sits inside a larger set of company pledges announced the same day: the White House fact sheet lists $150 million each from Anthropic and Google. It deepens a partnership with the Department of Energy and the national laboratories that Anthropic says it first announced in December 2025, and ties the company to the administration's stated science priorities, which the page names as fusion energy and quantum computing.

What the page says. Anthropic commits $150 million over three years to the Genesis Mission. The funding goes toward making Claude available to more than 15 agencies that are part of the mission, including NASA, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Science Foundation (NSF). Over the three years the company says it will: provide Claude, Claude Code and API credits to several hundred Genesis Mission research projects; partner closely with agencies and national laboratories on the administration's top science priorities, including fusion energy and quantum computing; and provide scientists with training, onboarding and technical support, and help agencies new to the mission get their first projects running. By the page, the commitment was announced at the "Science: A New Golden Age" summit hosted by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy in Washington, and Anthropic first announced its partnership with the Department of Energy and the Genesis Mission "last December" (that is, in December 2025). Context from the page. It points to earlier steps: Claude Science, an AI workbench for researchers launched earlier in 2026; 10,000 free and discounted seats for academic scientists; an expanded AI for Science programme that gives credits to researchers; and a research preview of the Model Hardware Standard, a shared specification for AI agents to operate lab instruments safely. Anthropic says it shares the administration's view, laid out in "Science: A New Golden Age", that AI can have a profound and positive impact on scientific discovery. What the record does not claim. The page does not divide the $150 million among credits, staff and support, names no agencies beyond the three above, and gives no date by which projects are to be running; the number of projects is "several hundred". It does not say how the credits are valued. The same sum appears in the White House fact sheet of the same day, which counts it among pledges from ten other companies to the Genesis Mission Consortium; see that record.
