GPT-6 for all of ChatGPT, with Intelligent UI

On 7 October 2026 OpenAI announced that GPT-6 was coming to everyone who uses ChatGPT, which it says is more than 1.2 billion people a week. The release brings Intelligent UI, in which a reply can include graphics, buttons, forms, charts and interactive tools, and lets the model start answering while it is still thinking. It began rolling out the same day to Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise on GPT-6 Sol, and from the next day to Free and Go on GPT-6 Luna.

Why it matters

A month after GPT-6 reached paid plans, the model becomes the basis of the Chat tab for free users too, and the form of a reply stops being only text: the model chooses a mix of text, visuals and interactive elements. OpenAI writes that the aim is for software to adapt to people rather than the reverse. The speed claims rest on OpenAI's internal evaluations.

What the page says. GPT-6 in ChatGPT is trained to compose responses from text, visuals and interactive elements, depending on the question: a comparison may sit side by side, an explanation may be an interactive diagram, and when a plain text answer is most useful ChatGPT gives that. The examples on the page are the timing of a Sunday roast, a wardrobe, a road-trip map and a diagram of a bicycle. The second change is that ChatGPT can interleave thinking with answering, that is begin answering while it still thinks and build the answer across several partial responses. In an internal evaluation of high-value, everyday agentic tasks, GPT-6 Extra High begins answering in the same time as GPT-5.6 Medium and scores better than GPT-5.6 Extra High; for questions that need web search, GPT-6 Instant starts answering 44% sooner, on average, than GPT-5.6 Instant. Safety. The page says GPT-6 builds on several of Astra's safety advances, better resists attempts to bypass its safety training, particularly attacks that adapt across multiple turns, and is better at communicating the limits of its own capabilities; the training was updated against high-risk misuse involving cyberattacks, biological threats and violence. Details are in the system card, which was not read here. Availability. GPT-6 with Intelligent UI starts rolling out globally in the Chat tab to Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise "today" and, "starting tomorrow", to Free and Go; for Enterprise it depends on workspace admin settings. In Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise it is GPT-6 Sol, in Free and Go GPT-6 Luna. The models behind Work and Codex are not changed by this release. What the record does not claim. The figure of more than 1.2 billion weekly users, the speed comparisons and the safety statements are OpenAI's own words about itself; no independent check was read. The page gives no prices and does not say that GPT-6 Sol and Luna here are the same models as in the API beyond the shared names.
