Nvidia agrees to buy Hugging Face
On 3 September 2026 Jensen Huang wrote on NVIDIA's blog that NVIDIA has agreed to acquire Hugging Face for $12,930,300,000. According to him Hugging Face will remain an open platform for the whole ecosystem, NVIDIA compute will not be required to build on it, and the brand stays.
Why it matters
A platform that on NVIDIA's own figures holds more than 3 million models and 500,000 datasets passes to an accelerator maker that also calls itself the largest contributor of open models and data to it. The promise of openness is the buyer's word, not a condition that a read agreement would carry. This is a record of an agreement, not of a completed purchase.
What the post says. The price is $12,930,300,000; there is nothing on the form of payment, a price per share or the founders' stake. Huang gives the platform's figures: more than 18 million developers, researchers and creators, more than 3 million models, 500,000 datasets, 1 million applications, more than 200,000 companies. About NVIDIA: more than 500 models and more than 250 open datasets on Hugging Face. Promised: Hugging Face remains an open platform; developers choose their own models, frameworks, clouds and computing platforms; NVIDIA compute is not required; support continues for open source and open-weight models 'from every model builder' and for multi-cloud, multi-accelerator development; the brand stays. According to Huang, Clément Delangue came to him, believing NVIDIA would be a good home for the company. Huang mentions an open letter on the importance of open weights that he co-authored but does not name it. What the record does not claim. The post gives no signing date, no closing date or conditions, no regulatory steps and no integration plan; NVIDIA's filing with the US securities regulator was not read, because the Atlas does not use EDGAR. No document from Hugging Face itself was read. The platform's figures and NVIDIA's contribution are NVIDIA's words. 'Will remain open' is an intention, not a requirement that can be checked.
