Suno v3 opens to everyone
On 21 March 2024 Suno released its v3 model to all users: a two-minute song with lyrics, vocals and accompaniment is generated in seconds from a short description. A free account, by MusicTech, gets up to 50 credits a day, up to 10 songs, with no right of commercial use.
Why it matters
Generating a whole song, which research models had shown as samples, became a free mass service. The same service later became a defendant in court over training on protected music.
Before that, paying Pro and Premier members tested it as v3 Alpha; Suno itself calls the quality "radio-quality". The company writes that its models do not recognise references to other artists and that an inaudible watermark can tell whether a song was made with Suno. MusicTech recalls that Suno was built into Microsoft Copilot in December. The record does not claim what data the model was trained on: none of the sources read says.
