AlphaGo against Ke Jie, the last match
From 23 to 27 May 2017 in Wuzhen, DeepMind and the China Go Association held the Future of Go Summit: a three-game match against the world number one, Ke Jie, Pair Go in which two professionals each had AlphaGo as partner, and a game against a team of five professionals. AlphaGo won all three games, and DeepMind announced the match as the program's last.
Why it matters
After Wuzhen AlphaGo played no more public matches: the team announced it was moving on to other problems. In place of matches players got 50 games of AlphaGo against itself at full time controls, material nobody had had before.
Two DeepMind posts were read: the announcement of 10 April with the dates and formats, and the closing post of 27 May by Demis Hassabis and David Silver. The closing post promises one more paper that year and a teaching tool on which Ke Jie was to work; the first ten self-play games were published at once, the rest ten a day. The 3-0 score comes from The Verge's report of the same day: neither DeepMind post states the score. The research report behind the candidate spoke of a final victory, citing a post that does not say it.
