The first commercial humanoid deployment
GXO Logistics — the customer, not the robot maker — announced a multi-year agreement with Agility Robotics and called it the first formal commercial deployment of humanoid robots. Seventeen months later Agility reported that Digit had moved over 100,000 totes in live operations.
Why it matters
Every other humanoid claim of this period rests on the maker’s own video. Here a paying customer signed a multi-year contract and named the task, and the cumulative figure published seventeen months later measures sustained work rather than a staged run.
GXO’s release calls the agreement the industry’s first formal commercial deployment of humanoid robots and the first Robots-as-a-Service deployment of humanoid robots. Digit robots work at a SPANX facility, taking totes off mobile robots and placing them onto a conveyor, integrated with the automation already on site. GXO also deploys Agility Arc, the cloud platform for managing Digit fleets. A pilot preceded the agreement in late 2023. On 20 November 2025 Agility Robotics reported that Digit had moved more than 100,000 totes at GXO’s Flowery Branch facility in Georgia. Neither source states how many robots are deployed, over what period those hundred thousand accumulated, or what the uptime was; the figure itself is Agility’s, and the surrounding coverage repeats it without independent verification.
