Mistral raises three billion euros at more than twenty-one
The French lab closed a 3 billion euro Series D led by Samsung at a post-money valuation of more than 21 billion, the largest ever completed by a European technology company.
Why it matters
A European lab raised capital of this order for the first time, so building frontier open-weight models stopped being a question of American and Chinese money alone.
The round was announced on 8 September 2026, three years after the company was founded. The amount is 3 billion euros and the post-money valuation is more than 21 billion euros. Mistral calls it the largest equity fundraising round ever completed by a European technology company. Samsung Electronics led the round, with the Scaleup Europe Fund managed by EQT and the existing investor PSG Equity as co-leads. Advent, funds and accounts managed by BlackRock and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg joined as new investors. The company says the money will expand its frontier research, scale its compute capacity for training models, build infrastructure and accelerate commercial and international growth.
