The first IJCAI
The first International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence was held in Washington.
Why it matters
The field got a regular forum of its own thirteen years after it acquired a name.
Until then results were presented at conferences on computing, information theory or psychology. The IJCAI-69 proceedings include Nilsson's paper on Shakey. The conference ran every two years afterwards and remains one of the field's principal venues.
