May: two Nature papers the report missed, and a resolution about something else
May 2026 had ten records and none on Ukraine, science from AI in a journal, energy or driving. An outside report offered twenty-one candidates and left out the two Nature papers of 19 May that the brief itself named. Seven records entered: Co-Scientist and ERA in Nature, a Department of Energy order letting the grid operator call on data-centre generators, NIST's renamed AI consortium, Diia.AI in Ukraine's state app, a California permit for Nuro and Alibaba's chip-and-model announcement. The main finding: the report's Ukrainian entry was a resolution about payment authentication.
Where this pass came from
May had ten records, resting on manufacturer pages, Erdős-problem work, money and two laws. Empty lines: Ukraine, peer-reviewed science from AI, energy and driving. The brief followed scheme 1b: the outside report (Gemini) gave names and addresses, and the session read every date and figure itself. The brief also named one candidate outright, the two Nature papers of 19 May. The report did not contain them.

Two Nature papers, 19 May. Co-Scientist, a multi-agent system on Gemini that proposes and ranks research hypotheses, with laboratory tests reported for leukaemia drug candidates. ERA, which pairs a language model with tree search to write scientific software: 40 of 87 single-cell methods beat everything published on the leaderboard at the time, and 14 models beat the CDC ensemble in a retrospective test. Both are the authors’ own experiments; the Co-Scientist code is not public and ERA’s reference code is. They are two records, not one.
Energy, 18 May. The Secretary of Energy’s Order No. 202-26-23 let the grid operator PJM direct backup generation at data centres to run before, or during, a level-3 emergency alert. It lasted until 20 May and does not say whether any data centre was actually run.
Standards, 29 May. NIST’s notice 2026-10779 retitles its AI Safety Institute Consortium as the NIST Artificial Intelligence Consortium and rewrites its scope; the word “safety” leaves the name.
Ukraine, 14 May. Diia.AI, the state’s assistant, reached the Diia app: three services in a chat, open beta, Gemini underneath. The user figures appear only in a parliamentary committee’s repeat of the ministry’s own presentation.
Driving, 7 May. California issued Nuro a permit for the pilot with a driver. It forbids charging for rides.
Alibaba, 20 May. A chip, a rack and a model announced together; every figure is the company’s.
The main finding: the right topic, the wrong document
The report’s entry for Ukraine, offered as an AI regulation of the National Bank, is Board resolution no. 50 of 7 May on strong authentication in the payment market. The bank’s AI paper is a discussion document of March and says it is not an act. Two more entries were the wrong kind of thing: an FDA “machine learning tool” is a multi-criteria analysis method, and the ICRA best-paper items are dated in June and July for a conference held in early June.
What did not enter
Nineteen candidates: a live tracker page for Gemini 3.5 Flash, three vendor pages on a release the atlas already holds, a partner integration, a fan site and an aggregator, three FDA documents, the ICRA items, the wrong Ukrainian resolution, two training programmes, a parliamentary press summary (used as a second source), a video, and a blog dated in July. The second Energy Department order, about keeping two power-plant units running, is named inside the record of the first.
